(1) Archaeological Sites Information If you would like to learn more about the two basic types of archaeological evidence which indicates the presence of a site (artifacts and features), then this will be helpful. (2) Archaeologists/Contacts List Want to get in touch with some of the professional archaeologists around our state? This list of contacts will be what you are looking for. (3) Archaeology Bibliography Ask for this reading list for adults if you would like to read more about archaeology. (4) Archaeology Bibliography for Children For children, there is also a reading list of archaeology books and other materials available. (5) Archaeology Bookmarks * A variety of bookmarks with illustrations and facts are available. (6) Archaeology Coloring Book Children will enjoy this coloring book about archaeology and artifacts. (7) Archaeology Grant Information Did you know that there are grant funds available for archaeology projects and research in our state? This sheet will provide you with information on which types of projects would be eligible. (8) Archaeology in Your Community Learn about archaeology that has been happening in Indiana recently. Read about what some archaeologists are discovering and about several specific projects which have taken place. (9) Archaeology Law Question & Answer Sheet Did you know our state has a law which protects archaeological sites? This question and answer sheet will be helpful in understanding the law. (10) Archaeology Section Brochure This brochure provides the reader with information concerning the Archaeology Section of the Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology. We have a handout on the most frequently asked questions and answers about going into archaeology for a profession. (17) Cemetery Registry Information The Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology is in the process of compiling a statewide cemetery and burial ground location database. Volunteers who wish to help research and preserve our history can participate through this unique program. We will send information on the program itself as well as volunteer opportunities. (18) Children's Archaeology Crossword Puzzle This is a fun and challenging crossword puzzle about many aspects of archaeology. (19) Children's Archaeology Tool Match Game Match pictures of various tools used during archaeological investigations with their correct description. (21) Chronology of Historical Events A chronology of selected historical events in the late 17th-19th centuries in Indiana. (22) Commemorative Poster * Each year there is a commemorative poster which illustrates a theme or archaeological topic. (23) Glossary of Archaeology Terms For those who want more information on what certain archaeological terms mean, this glossary will help. (24) Governor's Proclamation This is a copy of the official Proclamation signed by Governor Joe Kernan designating this year's Archaeology Month as September in Indiana. (25) Historical Indians We have information which discusses the historical Native Americans who lived in Indiana. (26) Indiana Archaeology Outreach Find out more about the archaeology outreach services and products offered by the Division. Learn about our publications, stewardship/training opportunities, presentations, and more. (27) Pottery & Projectile Point Posters Two mini posters showing drawings of some examples of Early and Middle Woodland ceramics as well as illustrations of projectile point types through the years. Also included on the back of the point poster are tips for responsible artifact collecting. (28) Prehistoric Cultures Outline An outline of selected characteristics of prehistoric cultures in Indiana (complements handout #29). (29) Prehistoric Indians of Indiana From Paleoindians to the Mississippian period, this handout about the prehistoric Indians of Indiana provides descriptions of artifacts and lifeways. (30) Previous Archaeology Posters * For those who missed getting the commemorative posters from previous Indiana Archaeology Weeks, and Months, we still have some left. Orders will be filled on a first come first served basis until there are none left. (31) The Indiana Historian - Early Years * "Archaeology in Indiana--the Early Years." This is a publication of the Indiana Historical Bureau which was jointly produced by the Bureau and the DHPA. Provides the reader with information on archaeology in Indiana from early statehood to 1966, basic archaeological definitions, and much more. One copy will be sent with information about how to obtain additional copies from the Bureau. (32) The Indiana Historian - Science Today * "Archaeology in Indiana-- the Science Today." This publication focuses on archaeological activities in our state since 1966, advancements in the science, explanations of the various phases of archaeological research and fieldwork, as well as information on where the discipline is headed in the future. One copy will be sent with information about how to obtain additional copies from the Bureau. (33) Early Peoples of Indiana This popular publication was revised in 2003. The booklet provides the reader with an introduction to precontact cultures in Indiana; how archaeology is conducted; artifacts, features, and the evidence of archaeology; archaeology in Indiana; how to become an archaeologist; information on the Historic Preservation and Archaeology Law; an extensive bibliography on Indiana Archaeology; a glossary of archaeological terms; a guide to projectile points; tips for responsible artifact collecting, and much more. (34) Underground Railroad Initiative Information The Underground Railroad Initiative has been working since 1998 to locate the places, people, and events associated with the Underground Railroad in Indiana. Available is information about conferences, educator workshops, and a bibliography of UGRR related resources. Also learn about the statewide volunteer committee working to locate these sites; become a volunteer of this committee and help preserve the UGRR sites in your community. Research reports are available at a minimal charge. (35) Teacher Resources For educators, there is a wealth of materials, and sources of those materials, for incorporating archaeology in the classroom setting. We have available a list of sources to get you started! (36) Archaeology/George Rogers Clark & More Information on archaeology related to George Rogers Clark, the French in Indiana, and more. Various materials are available on these topics.
