Judge David G, Campbell
United States District Court
United States Courthouse
40l West Washington Street
Phoenix, Arizona 85003
Dear Judge Campbell:
First of all and foremost, I would like to sincerely express 1ny remorse for my actions on
the night oflanuary 1.3, 2003. As I prepare to stand before you for sentencing in this matter, I
would wish to apologize both to this court and certainly to Mr, Hubert Evans, who was injured
that night as a direct result of my intoxication and negligence. Furthermore, I want to make it
clear that I don’t today nor did l on the night ofthe unfortunate incident, have any personal
grievances with Mr. Evans. Basically we share mutual friends whom I had previously asked to
not come around my property anymore due to the possibility of confrontation. As the events
played out, we would not only be gathered together at my home, but to my regret I was severely
intoxicated and I acted without thinking and the result was one that haunts me to this day. Not
only did I injure Mr. Evans, I managed to drive a wedge between my l0 year old son and myself,
whom Iliad previously raised since birth.
Your honor, in trying to refocus my life in a positive and constructive mannerl self-
surrendered approximately 14 months after this incident to be held accountable for my state
violation, thirty days prior to my release from state custody, I was detained bythe US. Marshals
to face this matter. l’m aware that my alcoholism must be addressed so that nothing like this can
ever happen again. l’m also prepared to accept responsibility for my actions and realize that
there must he circumstances bestowed upon me. Please accept my apology and remorse as l pray
that you will grant me mercy by sentencing me to the minirnuin and thus afford me a chance to
better myself, rebuild my relationship with my son so that hopefullly I may prevent alcholoiuse in
his life and before a father he’ll be proud of
Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.
Sincerely,
i,a,_i< s H l
