WILDLAND FIREFIGHTING HANDTOOL REQUEST APPLICATION

The DNR has made funds available for the purchase of wildland firefighting handtools. These tools are purchased in large quantities through the State's competitive bid process or through the General Services Administration. These tools are then made available to cooperating rural and volunteer fire departments without charge. A compliment of handtools consist of the following: 6 2 4 2 2 Council Rakes Collapsible Broom Rakes Fire Swatters Fire Shovels Backpack Pumps

Departments that receive tools will be asked to sign a cooperative agreement (sample provided upon request). The receiving department may elect to take the entire compliment of tools or only those that they feel are of value to them. The current program only provides a limited amount of funding. Roughly 100 departments can be supplied these tools every two years. Departments can only receive a compliment of tools once every ten years. HANDTOOL PROGRAM
The Division of Forestry will supply cooperating fire departments with a compliment of wildland firefighting handtools. This would include 6-council fire rakes, 2-collapsible broom rakes, 4-fire swatters, 2-backpack pumps, and 2-shovels. The estimated value of these tools is $800.00. In order for a department to qualify they must sign a cooperative mutual aid agreement. Departments can only receive a compliment of tools once every 10 years.
