COLLECTION AND DISCLOSURE OF SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS The Workers' Compensation Commission requires the use of certain forms which must be furnished in connection with workers' compensation claims. These forms have been adopted pursuant to authority given the Commission by the Workers' Compensation Law to adopt forms and procedures necessary to effectively administer this Law. Many of these forms request the social security number of the injured worker, but the injured worker is not required to disclose this number. The failure of an individual to disclose this number will not result in the denial of any right, privilege or benefit provided under the Workers' Compensation Law. The social security number, if disclosed, will be used solely for the purpose of facilitating and expediting the identification of individuals and their claims records, and to reduce the incidence of misidentification of persons with common names. However, because our forms are public records, the social security number, if provided, may be subject to public disclosure in accordance with the provisions of the Mississippi Public Records Act.
