5. If a guardian ad litem is appointed for a child in a child protective proceeding, the guardian ad litem shall assist the court in determining the child's best interests. 6. A lawyer-guardian ad litem appointed to represent the child(ren) must meet with and observe each child before each proceeding or hearing, in a setting suitable to observe the child and assess the child's needs. 7. In proceedings under MCL 712A.2(b) and (c), the attorney appointed for the child shall serve as the child's legal advocate. 8. This appointment will be for purposes of representation in the family division of the circuit court only, unless otherwise ordered by the judge.
