News Release September 8, 2008 Diana S. Daugherty Chosen as 2008 Roser Excellence in Bankruptcy Award Recipient Diana S. Daugherty, a St. Louis attorney who has made outstanding contributions to the development and practice of bankruptcy law has been chosen to receive the 2008 Michael R. Roser Excellence in Bankruptcy Award from the Commercial Law Committee of the Missouri Bar. She is an invaluable resource to the consumer bankruptcy bar and the Bankruptcy Court. The Award will be presented to Ms. Daugherty at the Annual Meeting of the Missouri Bar in Kansas City on September 19, 2008. Ms. Daugherty is a Staff Attorney for John V. LaBarge, Jr., the Standing Chapter 13 Trustee for the Eastern District of Missouri, a position she has held for the past 18 years. She is a frequent writer and speaker at seminars for the Missouri Bar and the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis where she lends her vast knowledge of Bankruptcy laws and day-to-day procedures with counsel for debtors and creditors alike. She also coordinates and presents at the Standing Chapter 13 Trustee's Annual Seminar. In this capacity, Ms. Daugherty contributes information on practices employed throughout the country and awareness of emerging issues from other jurisdictions. Ms. Daugherty also shares her knowledge, in that she welcomes calls from all counsel to address specific issues. She serves as the face of bankruptcy to many debtors and creditors providing general information about the process. Ms. Daugherty also vigorously upholds the Standing Chapter 13 Trustee's position as protector of truth and integrity in the Bankruptcy process while balancing the competing interest of all parties as required by Bankruptcy law. Ms. Daugherty has been an integral part of development of the local rules and procedures for the Eastern District of Missouri. Since 1993, she has worked tirelessly on every committee that drafted prior and current local rules and procedures affecting Chapter 13 practice for the Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. Ms. Daugherty has been instrumental in this development because she recognizes the related interest of all of the parties, debtor, creditor, Chapter 13 Trustee and Court, and she offers reasoned analysis of the law to address all concerned. Ms. Daugherty received a B.S. Degree from Saint Louis University Business School and a J.D. Degree from Saint Louis University Law School. Prior to joining the Standing Chapter 13 Trustee's Office, she served as a law clerk for Judges Carl Gaertner and Robert Dowd, Sr. of the Missouri Court of Appeals. Each year since 1994, the Commercial Law Committee of the Missouri Bar, through a special selection subcommittee consisting of past recipients and attorneys representing different geographical areas throughout the states and a variety of practice sizes, presents the Roser Award to an attorney who manifests the highest standards of excellence in bankruptcy practice, who has contributed distinctively to the development and appreciation of bankruptcy law, and who has made an outstanding contribution in the field of bankruptcy practice or administration. The award is named in honor of the late Michael R. Roser, a prominent Kansas City bankruptcy lawyer.
