UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT DISTRICT OF COLORADO REGISTRATION OF JUDGM ENTS FOR ENFORCEM ENT IN ANOTHER DISTRICT ­ 28 U.S.C. § 1963 28 U.S.C. § 1963 provides as follows: A judgment in an action for the recovery of money or property entered in any court of appeals, district court, bankruptcy court, or in the Court of International Trade may be registered by filing a certified copy of the judgment in any other district or, with respect to the Court of International Trade, in any judicial district, when the judgment has become final by appeal or expiration of the tim e for appeal or when ordered by the court that entered the judgment for good cause shown. Such a judgment entered in favor of the United States may be so registered any time after judgment is entered. A judgment so registered shall have the same effect as a judgment of the district court of the district where registered and may be enforced in like manner. A certified copy of the satisfaction of any judgment in whole or in part may be registered in like manner in any district in which the judgment is a lien. The procedure prescribed under this section is in addition to other procedures provided by law for the enforcement of judgments. In order to register a judgment from another district, into our district, or vice versa, the following procedure applies: I. IN THE DISTRICT IN W HICH THE JUDGM ENT W AS ENTERED:

1. Obtain a "Clerk's Certification of a Judgment to be Registered in Another District" ­ the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts has promulgated this Form AO-451 for use in registering judgments from district courts. The form will need to be ordered from, and completed by, the Clerk's Office in the district in which the judgment was entered. The link to Form AO-451 is provided here: http://www.uscourts.gov/forms/forms_Civil.cfm a. b. 2. This certificate will be prepared by the Clerk's Office. The fee for the certificate is $9.00.

A conformed copy of the Judgment for Registration should be attached to the certification. (A Clerk's Office may charge $0.50 per page to photocopy a judgment.) IN THE DISTRICT IN W HICH THE JUDGM ENT IS BEING REGISTERED: File the Certification of Judgment for Registration in Another District with the conformed copy of the judgment attached. Tender a $39.00 fee. Note: Effective 2/17/89, 28 U.S.C. Section 1963, as amended, will allow judgments to be registered at any time when ordered by the court of origin for good cause shown. In this situation, to register the judgment you would file a certified copy of the judgment, the order allowing registration and the $39.00 fee.
