EMERGENCY TELEPHONE USERS
SURCHARGE RATE

Under Revenue and Taxation Code section 41031 of the Emergency Telephone Users Surcharge
Law, the Department of General Services (DGS) is required to annually determine the surcharge
rate for the upcoming period by October 1st of each year.
DGS has notified the State Board of Equalization (BOE) that, with respect to charges made for
intrastate telephone communications services rendered, the current surcharge rate of 0.50
percent will be continued for the next surcharge rate period. The BOE, at its October 1, 2008
meeting, fixed this rate. The rate will remain in effect through December 31, 2009.
